Introduction
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your BitcoinIRA account by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. This helps to protect your account if your password is compromised. We offer two options for 2FA:
Text SMS: You will receive a unique code via SMS to your mobile phone.
Authenticator App (Recommended): You will need to use an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy, to generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP) code.
Requirements
A mobile device with access to text (SMS) messaging.

How to Set Up Text-Based (SMS) 2FA:
If you're a new client and signing up for the first time, follow these steps to set up 2FA using the text (SMS) method:
On the sign-up form (https://app.bitcoinira.com/sign-up) enter the mobile phone number you want to use for 2FA and your new account.
After clicking the submit button, check your mobile device for a text message containing the six-digit verification code.
Enter this code in the designated field to verify your phone number.
Once verified, your mobile number is automatically set up for 2FA. Each time you log in you will receive a code via text (SMS) to confirm your identity.
If you skipped the phone number verification during your initial sign-up, you can still set up 2FA later:
Go to bitcoinira.com/login and log in to your account. In the top right corner of the page, click "Account Settings".
In the “Phone Number” section, click on "Verify", then enter your mobile phone number.
Check your mobile device for a text message containing the six-digit verification code.
Enter this code in the designated field to verify your phone number.
How to Change Your 2FA Method from SMS to an Authenticator App
If you prefer to use an authenticator app instead of text (SMS), you can easily switch your 2FA method. Please note that only one authentication method can be used at a time. However, you can easily switch to your desired method via Account Settings.
Sign in using your login credentials and current text (SMS) 2FA method.
In the top right corner of the page, click "Account Settings".
In the “2-Step Verification” section, click on the Authenticator App option "Set Up".
Verify using your current text (SMS) 2FA method.
Follow the instructions for Authenticator App Set Up.
Download or open your authenticator app.
Scan the BitcoinIRA QR code displayed on the screen with your authenticator app, or enter the BitcoinIRA Secret Key* into the app.
* We strongly recommend saving the Secret Key in a secure location. Having a copy of the Secret Key will allow you to regain access if you ever lose your phone or authenticator app.
5. If the QR code / Secret Key set up is successful, the authenticator app will generate a six-digit code. Enter this code into the BitcoinIRA field and click the “Confirm” button.
6. Your 2FA method is now switched to the authenticator app. Going forward, you will use the authenticator app to generate a verification code each time you log in.
